A cataract develops when the clear lens of your eye gradually becomes cloudy, which can make your vision blurry and produce an increase in glare. As cataracts progress overtime, your vision will become more and more affected and they will gradually begin to impact your life.
Symptoms vary from person to person. However, common symptoms include blurred vision, light sensitivity, poor night vision, double vision in the affected eye, difficulty in seeing distances and numerous changes in eyeglass prescriptions to accommodate changes in vision.

Standard Monofocal Implants will provide you with clear distance vision; but, you may still need corrective eyewear for near and intermediate vision. Multifocal Implants can give you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a full range of vision. These lenses allow clear vision for near, intermediate and far distances, and can eliminate or greatly reduce the patient’s need for glasses.
The Light Adjustable Lens, also known as the LAL, is a unique IOL that is used to replace your natural lens during cataract surgery. It is composed of a unique photosensitive material that responds to ultraviolet light.
During cataract surgery, the natural lens is removed, and the Light Adjustable Lens is implanted in the eye, just like any other IOL. After the eyes have healed from cataract surgery, eye doctors can use a special device called a Light Delivery Device, which emits controlled doses of ultraviolet light.
In response to this light, the Light Adjustable Lens will change shape, thus fine-tuning its power. Although you may need a few light treatments to reach your desired vision, this process allows you to fully customize your vision results.
The Light Adjustable Lens offers several advantages over traditional IOLs. Its customizable nature means that vision can be precisely adjusted to suit your individual needs, potentially reducing or even eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses after cataract surgery.
