North Georgia Eye Associates’ ophthalmologist Dr. Zach Balest recently received board certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO).
A graduate of the University of North Georgia, Balest earned his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia/University of Georgia Medical Partnership in Athens, Ga. He then completed his transitional internship at Baptist Health Systems and his ophthalmology residency at Emory University in Atlanta.
Dr. Balest is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. His professional interests include cataract surgery with premium lens options, medical and surgical management of glaucoma, diabetic eye care and eyelid rejuvenation.
According to the ABO, ophthalmologists who achieve board certification voluntarily complete a rigorous evaluation of their knowledge, skills and experience. Board certificates are valid for a period of 10 years, then must be renewed through participation in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
