The Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation recently honored North Georgia Eye Associates’ ophthalmologist Dr. Stephen Farkas with its Beacon of Hope Award.
The award pays tribute to an ophthalmologist who has partnered with the Lions Lighthouse to provide laser eye surgeries to Georgia residents who have nowhere else to turn for
For more than 20 years, Farkas has helped the Lighthouse provide eye surgery to Georgians in financial need.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the Beacon of Hope Award,” Farkas said. “The Foundation provides a great service to Georgians who cannot afford needed vision surgery. It is fulfilling to help with such a wonderful program that improves self-sufficiency and self-esteem.”
The foundation lauded Dr. Farkas for not only improving the vision of the surgery recipients but also improving their quality of life.
Last year, the Lighthouse served more than 6,000 uninsured and low-income Georgians, facilitated more than 400 laser eye surgeries, provided 4,860 brand new pairs of eyeglasses, and gave 2,620 eye exams. In addition, 962 people received 1,790 hearing aids through its new digital aid program.
